EFIBCA presents new strategy

Düsseldorf - The European Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container Association (EFIBCA) introduced a new strategy at its Open Meeting 2008 at the trade show Interpack in Düsseldorf, Germany. More than 50 participants from 15 countries informed themselves about EFIBCA and current trends in the FIBC industry.

Thomas Noor, head of the Storsack Group, presented the history and profile of his company and gave an overview over the current development of the global FIBC market. He outlined how Storsack dealt with challenges like rising raw material prices, labour costs and increasing competition.

EFIBCA President Dr Amir Samadijavan explained the new direction of the association. He pointed out that EFIBCA will put a strong emphasis on informing and educating the end user about the safe use of FIBC. Moreover, EFIBCA would publish on its relaunched website guidelines for the correct labelling of FIBC. Regarding the different standards for FIBC Samadijavan made clear that EFIBCA will intensify the cooperation with other FIBC associations to promote the use of a uniform global standard.

Christoph Bornhorn, lawyer at the German Association of Plastics Packaging Manufacturers and responsible for the EFIBCA Secretariat, informed about current legislation relevant for FIBC. He illustrated how food contact and environmental laws affect FIBC manufacturers and importers. In particular, he emphasized the relevance of the new European chemical regulation (REACH) for this branch of industry.

Founded in 1983, EFIBCA is the European trade association of manufacturers and distributors of FIBCs and their suppliers - leading the field on quality, safety, product development and service. EFIBCA accepts members from all countries provided applicants are able to fulfill the standards of membership.
