The European Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container Association (EFIBCA) held its second Open Meeting on 14 October in Vienna. More than 60 participants from 20 countries discussed current aspects of the big bag business.

EFIBCA President Dr Amir Samadijavan presented the mission statement and the current focus of the association. He outlined the ongoing work on a new FIBC quality assurance system called “EFIBCA-Cert”. This system aims at introducing a quality mark for big bags including a third party control. Moreover, Samadijavan pointed out the new structure of the association according to which each big bag manufacturer or trader acting on the European market is eligible to become a member.

In the following session Mike Smith, CMAI Europe, analysed the current development of Polypropylene prices. Wolfgang Neumann, EVONIK Services, gave an insight in the legal requirements and best practice solutions for load securing for FIBC. Cees van Teylingen, Atlas MTT, explained the differences between real-life and artificial weathering tests followed by Maxcence Wittebolle, IBE-BVI, presenting current developments in dangerous goods regulation and normalisation. Finally, Dr Herbert Kielbassa from Labordata presented specific aspects of FIBC testing and Dr. Bergmair from OFI informed about hygiene management and the corresponding standards.

The European Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container Association represents the interest of FIBC manufacturers, distributors and material suppliers towards politics, the public and other institutions connected with the FIBC business. EFIBCA offers members a platform for exchange about the market and informs and safeguards the FIBC user.
